Our Mission
Our mission is to elevate the quality of mental healthcare provided to the black community through research, advocacy, and education.
About Our Program
The black community is more likely to receive mental health services by an emergency room rather than by a trained mental health professional (Racial/Ethnic Differences in Mental Health Service Use among Adults, SAMHSA).
Additionally, young black women have the fastest growing rate of suicide in the United States (Sheftall, JAACAP). These disturbing facts have complicated underpinnings that have yet to be fully understood, and the lack of research, cultural competence, and black mental health providers are making it difficult progress to be made.
Our program consists of a team of experienced, dedicated, internationally recognized mental health professionals with a broad range of experiences that include advocacy, research, and clinical care. We serve the entire lifespan, and provide consultation for children, adolescents, adults, and families.
We provide consultation for persons or families navigating an understanding of the diagnoses and care options for any mental health condition, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, psychotic illness, ADHD, OCD, trauma-related disorders, and more.
