Dr. Michelle Hendrickson (pronouns: she/they) has been practicing independently as a licensed psychologist since 2019. She received her doctorate degree in Clinical Child Psychology from the University of Kansas in 2017. Prior to independent practice, they completed their pre-doctoral internship at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center on the Clinical Child track. Her post-doctoral training took place at Jackson Health System/University of Miami with an emphasis in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for children, adolescents, and families. She has worked in a variety of settings, including community outpatient mental health, psychiatric inpatient, and comprehensive DBT programs.
As a clinical child psychologist, Dr. Hendrickson’s practice focuses primarily on working with children, adolescents, parents, families, and young adults. Dr. Hendrickson works with a variety of presenting problems, including behavioral and compliance difficulties in young children, ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, suicidality, self-harm, eating disorders, substance use, and other risky behaviors.
In her work with clients, Dr. Hendrickson strives to create an environment of safety, understanding, warmth, and acceptance. They believe a collaborative therapeutic relationship is an essential component to successful treatment. Dr. Hendrickson enjoys helping clients learn new skills and work towards living a meaningful life in line with their values and personal goals. Dr. Hendrickson utilizes a variety of evidence-based cognitive and behavioral modalities including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure Therapy, Inference-Based Therapy for OCD, Schema Mode Therapy, and Parent Management Training (PMT). She is certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and is a DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician™.
Dr. Hendrickson believes in the integration of social justice (including anti-racist and neurodiversity-affirming practices) and trauma-informed care into her work. As a member of the community, they are passionate about providing affirming care to LGBTQ+ youth and young adults.
In her spare time, Dr. Hendrickson finds joy in spending time with their partner and fur babies (two Norwegian Elkhound mixes and two senior cats), powerlifting, hiking, reading, playing board games and video games, crafting, and drinking good coffee.
